Recovery of Unused Prearranged
Burial Lots
Community Development, Parks & Recreation is in the process of recovering unused
prearranged lots in the City of Yorkton Cemetery on King Street, which were
purchased prior to 1950.
In accordance with Section 52 of The Cemeteries Act, 1999,
the City of Yorkton may apply to the provincial registrar for a declaration that
the interment rights in a lot have been abandoned. The registrar may
declare the interment rights to be abandoned if the registrar is satisfied that:
- The lot has not been used for interment purposes;
- The City has not heard from the buyer, or the buyers personal
representative, for 20 years;
- Reasonable efforts to locate the buyer or the buyers personal
representative have failed.
