Residential Lot Sales Rebate Program
For a limited time, the City of Yorkton is offering a 50% rebate toward the purchase of any City-owned residential lot. The rebate will be made available to anyone looking to build a new home in Yorkton. There is no application – simply choose from one of our Available Properties and then contact Economic Development to pick your lot and start the process.

Residential Construction Incentive
The City of Yorkton is offering the Residential Construction Incentive again in 2024. The incentive grants a 100% tax rebate over a 5-year period to the owner of a new one, two, three or four unit dwelling constructed on a City or privately-owned vacant residential lot.

Business Improvement Incentive Program
The Business Improvement Incentive Program was created to encourage all commercial property owners in the City of Yorkton to enhance the appearance of their buildings and to help lower costs for the creation and expansion of locally-owned businesses. The Business Improvement Incentive Program includes the Façade and Site Improvements Incentive Program, the New Construction Incentive Program and the Vacant Building Tax Abatement Program.
Façade and Site Improvements Incentive Program
This program provides incentives to property and business owners to renovate, restore, or redesign commercial building façades and storefronts in the City of Yorkton. The goal of this program is to make commercial areas more inviting and visually appealing to visitors and residents, increase property values, build civic pride and stimulate the local economy.

This program can provide incentives of up to:
Projects must have a minimum total project cost of $10,000 in order to qualify. All applicants must own the property and have commercially assessed property taxes. At the time of application, your tax balance must be up-to-date. Project applications are on a first-come first-serve basis. Projects must be completed with final supporting documents submitted no later than October 31 of each year (project completion deadline). New Construction Incentive Program
This program provides incentives to applicants who are constructing a new commercial building or adding onto an existing commercial building. The goal of this program is to help expand our local businesses and invite new businesses to our city. We want to build civic pride and stimulate our local economy.
Program summary |
This program is available for new building construction for a new or existing business which is locally-owned and creates an increased assessed "improvement" of more than $50,000.
Tax abatements will be applied only to additional assessment, at the following rates: First year: 100% All applicants must own the property and have commercially assessed property taxes. At point of application, your tax balance must be up-to-date. Project applications are on a first-come first-serve basis. In the event that more applications are received than there is available funding, this program will favour applications by business owners who reside in, and pay residential taxes to, the City of Yorkton. Projects must be completed with final supporting documents submitted no later than October 31 of each year (project completion deadline). Vacant Building Tax Abatement Program
This program provides incentives for vacant buildings or vacant portions of buildings that are occupied by new locally-owned businesses. The intention is to offset the cost of bringing the building up to the National Building Code and to stimulate economic activity. The goal of this program is to make commercial areas more inviting and visually appealing to visitors and residents, increase property values and build civic pride.

This program will be applied to both existing and new assessments of the vacant building or applicable vacant portion, to a maximum of $500,000. Tax abatements will be applied to both new and existing assessment. Where an application is for a vacant portion of a building, the abatement will be applied proportionately to the new and existing assessment of the vacant portion. Abatements will be implemented at the following rates: First year: 100% Project applications are on a first-come first-serve basis. Projects must be completed with final supporting documents submitted no later than October 31 of each year (project completion deadline).
