2022 Bicycle Rodeo Kickoff
The ninth annual Yorkton Bike Rodeo kicks off this week from May 16-20, 2022. Grade three students from all eight elementary schools in Yorkton will have the opportunity learn basic bike safety skills, tune up their bikes and practice on an obstacle course.
The program is a continuation of Bicycle Safety Week and was kicked off at Dr. Brass Elementary school today.
“We’re proud to again be part of this program that began nine years ago, and to partner our local RCMP members and Fire Fighters in giving our young people a good grounding in basic bicycle safety," said Mayor Mitch Hippsley.
"In a world of climate change, we will see ourselves using bicycle travel more into the future & learning the proper procedures at an early age is very important. This is something they will remember throughout their lives,” said Hippsley.
The program is an initiative of the local RCMP detachment and is sponsored by the Painted Hand Community Development Corporation, SGI, Yorkton Fire Department, Hometown Source for Sports, Canadian Tire, Yorkton Bowling Arena, and Saskatchewan Prevention Institute. All participants in the program will receive a free bicycle safety helmet and participants at each school will have an opportunity to win a bike and other prizes through a colouring contest.
Participating schools include St. Mary’s, Columbia, St. Michael’s, M.C. Knoll, St. Paul’s, St. Alphonsus and Yorkdale, as well as Dr. Brass.
