Yorkton city council is elected to act in the best interest of our community.
Made up of one Mayor and six Councillors, members are responsible for representing their constituents when making decisions that affect local policies, programs and services while keeping the well-being and financial integrity of the city in mind. Each one is elected for a term of four years.

With over 20 years of diverse business experience, Aaron Kienle brings a wealth of expertise in customer service, relationship building, public relations, marketing, and project management to his role as Mayor of Yorkton. Throughout his career, he has successfully opened, renovated, and acquired businesses, as well as consulted on numerous operations. His ability to bring people together, foster collaboration, and build trust has been a cornerstone of his success, ensuring projects are completed on time and with exceptional results.
From 2016 to 2020, Aaron served as a Yorkton City Councillor, where his innovative, outside-the-box approach led to practical and mutually beneficial solutions for the community. His time on Council, along with extensive involvement in committees and community organizations, strengthened relationships across Yorkton and deepened his understanding of effective governance.
In recent years, Aaron has focused on revitalizing existing businesses, helping them adapt and grow while planning for a sustainable future. He has also taken on consulting roles with organizations he believes in, sharing his expertise to help others achieve success.
Elected as Mayor of Yorkton in 2024, Aaron is passionate about progressive and approachable leadership. He emphasizes teamwork, collaboration, and transparent communication, fostering a positive and inclusive culture at City Hall and throughout the community. With a forward-thinking vision, Aaron is committed to creating a thriving, healthy, and connected community that Yorkton residents are proud to call home.

Councillor Brears was elected as Councillor in November, 2020. Councillor Brears has experience on the Economic Development Committee, Planning & Infrastructure Commission and Development Appeals Board for the City of Yorkton. He is a member of many local volunteer organizations and has served previously as a board member on the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce. Councillor Brears is part-owner of a local business that employs many people in and around Yorkton. He is focused on the well-being of Yorkton residents and the health of our business community. He is approachable and encourages people to provide any feedback that will help make Yorkton an even greater place to live and do business. |

About your Councillor |
Councillor Goulden's many years of work in the community, as well as her involvement with provincial and national organizations, have kept her in close touch with the people of Yorkton and the issues that directly affect them. She continually promotes Yorkton as the best place to visit, live and do business and believes in partnerships and empowerment towards growing a vibrant, safe and sustainable community. Councillor Goulden was first elected to Yorkton City Council in 1997 and continues to serve as a Councillor. She has served on all council committees and commissions and has been an active Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) and Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) participant. Councillor Goulden has played an active role as Chairperson of both the FCM Standing Committee on Community Safety & Crime Prevention and the National Rail Safety Committee. As an active community volunteer, she has served on numerous community, provincial and national committees and organizations, including terms as President of both the Canadian and Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association. She has also contributed her personal time towards the Saskatchewan Winter and Summer Games, World Junior Hockey Challenge, Yorkton Dance Association, Yorkton Nursery School Association, Yorkton Sports Hall of Fame, Band Boosters, Yorkton Music Festival, Ukrainian dance, Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club, Yorkton Figure Skating Club, the Rotary Club of Yorkton, and was the chair of the Vancouver Olympic Torch Run for Yorkton along with the last Royal Visit. |

Councillor Haider is focused on teamwork and collaboration at the Council table. He has served on the Protective Services Committee and the Yorkton Public Library Committee and is open to hearing what citizens have to say about all local matters. Yorkton is where Councillor Haider was raised, educated and where his teaching career started 25 years ago. During his quality time in Yorkton, he has met thousands of students and their families in the community. He is proud to call Yorkton home and is dedicated to keeping people safe in the community. This is Councillor Haider's second term on City Council. |

A proud Yorktonite and graduate of Yorkton Regional High School (YRHS), Councillor Stephanie Ortynsky is passionate about fostering opportunities and driving the potential growth of Yorkton. As a third-generation Ukrainian Canadian settler with deep roots in the community—her grandparents were farmers—Stephanie values the importance of family. She’s grateful to have grown up and be surrounded with strong business leaders who've invested in East Central Saskatchewan, further embedding her connection to Yorkton’s entrepreneurial spirit.
In her role as a Research Associate with the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) and the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy (JSGS) at the University of Regina (U of R), Councillor Ortynsky leads research initiatives focused on achieving long-term financial sustainability for municipalities across the province. Additionally, she instructs municipal finance in the Master of Urban Innovation (MUI) program at the University of Toronto (U of T), equipping future leaders with the knowledge to drive local transformation. Stephanie earned her doctorate (PhD) in public policy from JSGS, a joint program between the University of Saskatchewan (U of S) and U of R. Her postdoctoral research at the Institute on Municipal Finance & Governance (IMFG) at the School of Cities, U of T, honed her appreciation of municipal budgeting and the imperative for multi-tier governmental collaboration to safeguard Yorkton’s financial future. Her recent volunteer work with the JSGS Mentorship Program for masters' students; Upstream, now part of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CPPA); and the Ukrainian Museum of Canada (UMC) - National highlights her devotedness to community engagement, cultural preservation, and leadership. These values will shine through in her work on city council, where she remains fully committed to listening to residents, advocating on their behalf, and fostering collaboration for the benefit of all people of Yorkton. With over 15 years of experience spanning Saskatchewan, Ontario, and international projects, Stephanie brings an innovative perspective to Yorkton City Council; she was elected in 2024, bringing her dedication and vision to public service. Outside of her professional and civic responsibilities, Councillor Ortynsky is passionate about holistic health and wellbeing for all. She adores daily hikes or runs on the edge of the city's dirt roads with her active 9-year-old Weimaraner pup Poet Pickles, is a consistent meditator, and regularly joins in on Yorkton's plethora of group fitness options - gym boot camps, CrossFit, yoga and spin classes. |
