2021 Bicycle Rodeo Kickoff
The eighth annual Yorkton Bicycle Rodeo will teach basic bike safety skills to 458 grade three and four students this year, covering all eight Yorkton elementary schools.
The program is a continuation of Bicycle Safety Week and was kicked off at Yorkdale Elementary school today. The program runs until June 2, with bike rodeos at each of the remaining seven elementary schools in the city.
“We’re proud to again be part of this program, and to assist our local RCMP members in giving our young people a good grounding in basic bicycle safety. This is something they will remember throughout their lives,” said Mayor Mitch Hippsley.
The program is an initiative of the local RCMP detachment and is sponsored by the Yorkton Kinsmen Club, Canadian Tire, the Painted Hand Community Development Corporation, SGI and Hometown Source for Sports. All participants in the program will receive a free bicycle safety helmet and participants at each school will have an opportunity to win a new bike through a draw.
Participating schools include St. Mary’s, Columbia, St. Michael’s, M.C. Knoll, St. Paul’s, St. Alphonsus and Dr. Brass, as well as Yorkdale.
