Leashing and "Running At Large"
In Yorkton, you must keep all dogs on a leash whenever they are on any property other than your own - unless you are at a designated "leash free" area.
You are responsible for making sure that your dogs do not "run at large". A dog "running at large" means that it is unleashed, off its owner's property and not under its owner's control.
We have designated Wiggly Field a "leash free" area. We encourage you to use this area whenever you want to exercise your dog off its leash.
Off leash dogs:
- Pose a potential risk to the safety of residents
- Can become a nuisance by pooping on someone else’s property or a shared green space such as a park
- Can get themselves in dangerous situations by running into traffic.
Be a responsible dog owner and keep your dog on a leash when they are off your property.
Our Bylaw Officers may pick up any dog running at large and take it to the Yorkton SPCA. If you allow your dogs to stray at large or off leash in undesignated areas, you may be issued a fine.
